3 nights at Sungani and 2 nights at Kulandila with 1 complimentary night at Kulandila.
Despite the proximity, we absolutely encourage guests to stay at both properties and experience what each has to offer.
5 nights would be a great option to find a balance between activities and free time.
The tents at Sungani Lodge are much bigger, private and each has a private plunge pool. Built on elevated decking equipped with amenities such as; AC, lower viewing deck, and a fully airconditioned gym.
Kulandila is an intimate but well-equipped camp that presents a more relaxed/rustic feel and is more communal. It is not built on elevated decking but has distinct pathways, the tents are 460 sq ft vs Sungani tents which are over 1000 sq ft. There is no AC, but each has a ceiling fan within the net which works well in the warmer months.
The activities are much the same throughout the Luangwa, however, the walking, game loops, and drives at Sungani are usually in a different area to Kulandila. Kulandila will use game loops around the area to the north of the camp. We close Kulandila during our ‘green season’.
The terrain and landscape are also quite different. Sungani has riparian thicket backed onto semi- open woodland, while Kulandila also has riparian thicket but surrounding there are more historical floodplains and dambos. With the semi-open woodland you get species such as Roan Antelope and Hartebeest at Sungani which you don’t get around Kulandila. Sungani is also built on the edge of a massive lagoon while Kulandila enjoys being adjacent to the Luangwa River and is backed by a waterhole that we ensure always has enough water for passing animals.
