Cala Lodge was founded in 2007 by a young Costa Rican couple: Francisco & Raquel Castro. Francisco is a direct descendant of the “Leitón” family, one of the first Costa Rican families to settle in Monteverde during the 1920s; thirty years before the arrival of the Quakers. Francisco was born and raised in the cloud forest and began his career as a naturalist guide at a very young age. With more than fifteen years of experience, Francisco makes all his knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area available to travelers and specializes in bird watching tours when he is not involved in the regular operation of the Hotel.

Cala Lodge offers cozy accommodation at a reasonable price, isolated from noise and crowds and surrounded by a beautiful forest with easy access to the main attractions in the area. They help their visitors design the best itineraries to take advantage of their stay in Monteverde and turn it into a memorable experience.
