You will be taken on 2 drives each day in our 4×4 Land Cruiser: An early morning adventure, breaking for tea/coffee and rusks deep in the African bushveld, then either breakfast in the bush or back at the lodge.

An afternoon drive with a sundowner at one of our amazing viewpoints; returning once the sun sets and experiencing the nocturnal species and magnificent Zululand skies.

An avian-rich destination, Makongo Hills is home to a myriad of some of the country’s most beloved bird species.

The reserve’s range of diverse habitats; from rolling grassland, riverine sand forest, acacia woodland and extensive riverine cliff faces, makes it an absolute birder’s paradise.

Enjoy connecting with the flurry of colour and natural beauty from the safety of our Bird Hide, our Pool deck, or the comfort of a game drive.

We have a lovely pool deck or comfortable Lapa where you can sit out and enjoy early morning coffee and game spot in the valley. These are also really good areas for birding, or reading a book while having an afternoon tea.

We have a plunge pool at just the right temperature, to wallow in during the heat of the day.

Our Lapa has a fire pit for sitting about with a drink and friends, listening to the sounds of the wild, while Makongo Hills staff prepare your dinner. Perfect end to a day.
