Destination: Wilderness DumaTau is nestled deep within the vast Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, on the northernmost fringe of Botswana. The camp takes full advantage of its unique access to 45 kilometres (28 miles) of exclusive-traversing river frontage along both the Linyanti River and the Savuti Channel, and invites amazing wildlife encounters and adventures on the reserve’s pristine 126,000-hectares (311,353-acres) of unfenced, untamed wilderness.
Surrounded by migration paths, the camp overlooks the beautiful Osprey Lagoon, where centuries-old now-submerged elephant trails were created by parades of elephants, still regularly seen from every vantage point in camp.
Experience: With access to the fertile Kwando-Chobe ecosystem and Savuti Channel, the area is home to the greatest habitat diversity in northern Botswana. Expect to see marshes and waterways, riverine woodland, Kalahari apple-leaf and cathedral-like mopane woodlands, as well as grasslands.
Game viewing on water and on land in the Linyanti is exceptional. Guests will encounter buffalo and huge numbers of elephant all along the channels. Track predators on the prowl from game drives, and learn more about the wildlife on a guided nature walk with our knowledgeable guides. Back in camp, guests soak in iconic Linyanti scenes from our pool deck, or indulge in a relaxing massage at the Osprey Retreat (with spa, gym and lap pool) for rejuvenation.
Purpose: In order to ensure the safe passage of these megaherds and other wildlife, we work to continue the protection of this vital piece of land within the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. The biodiverse Linyanti is home to countless species, many of which are threatened with population reduction, or worse, extinction. These include elephant, wild dogs, lion, pangolin, and a great many others. The area continues to provide a safe home for wildlife, and is ideally placed to act as dispersal epicentre for their emigration within the larger conservation area
Wildlife: This lush and fertile conservation area attracts an extraordinary diversity of wildlife and makes for epic game viewing. Megaherds of elephants congregate along the waterways and lagoons during the dry winter months. Red lechwe, Burchell’s zebras, giraffes, buffalos, and warthogs are accompanied by predator sightings of lions, leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, and spotted hyenas. Enormous concentrations of hippos and crocodiles reside in the Savuti Channel.
Wilderness DumaTau: Extensive lagoon frontage ensures that each ultra-spacious 142 m2 guest suite has uninterrupted views over Osprey Lagoon, and front row seats to the huge herds of elephants that the Linyanti is renowned for.
There are seven luxurious twin tented suites and one family unit on offer, each with a private plunge pool on an elevated wooden deck. Set mere steps from the Linyanti’s wildlife corridors, game is often seen wandering peacefully through camp.
The main dining and lounge areas feature unimpeded, wide-angle vistas that overlook the wildlife-rich lagoon, while the centrally located Osprey Retreat wellness centre and gym – shared with Wilderness Little DumaTau – offers an inviting shaded deck, lap pool, spa, a drinks and snacks counter, as well as a Safari Boutique.
Built with an extremely light eco-footprint, the camp is 100% solar powered.
